Don't be Smart. Be Simple

Team

for some reason, life has been a bit of struggle recently and with car maintenance and bathroom leaks and expenses going up. I have seen my emergency savings fund take a dive. Which stresses me out massively.

Sometimes in life we have to reset.

I have to reset with my finances.

How do I do that?

By keeping it simple.

Take the household income - make sure I pay the bills, food, petrol and then allocate small amount going to personal things like going out with the kids and friends.

The rest will go back into the emergency savings account.

A simple plan.

No stress.

No smart ass way of making money or quick fixes. Just every month stick to the plan.

This comes in the same with health, fitness and life.

With the influence of social media, and hacks that we all read on the internet, we are all looking for a quick way of losing body fat, gaining muscle and being healthy.

So we look for the 'SMART' way of doing this.

But sometimes smart isnt always smart in the way you think.

Since becoming a father I have had to keep my health and fitness as simple as possible and this has lead to me adding more muscle and becoming stronger than before.

Keeping things simple and doing it everyday so it's doable.

"Little and often, over the long haul." as legendary strength coach Dan John Days.

With health this is how I keep things simple.

1. I try and get to bed before 10pm every night

2. When I wake up, I get dressed and clean my teeth - no lazing around in PJs for hours on end

3. I fast until around 10am

4. I drink tea and black coffee until then.

5. I eat as much fruit and veg as I can throughout the day

6. I keep track of my calories

7. I make sure I get enough protein

For fitness

1. I keep my workouts short no more than 30 mins

2. I choose 5 exercises and do them

3. The rep range is either 2 sets of 5, 2 sets of 6 - 8, or 3 sets of 2 reps, 3 reps, 5 reps.

4. I lift weight 2 - 4 times a week.

5. I try and walk as much as possible (when the weather is not cold and raining!) this may mean I walk around at work more or park further away from when I am meant to be going.

There are 12 simple rules for a healthy lifestyle.

There is nothing smart or fancy about it.

I show up

Eat well

Be consistent

Do my best

Yeah, life is tough. I have 2 kids under 4, me and my partner work shifts and living expenses are rubbish at the moment, work is work, winter has lasted around 7 months and doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

But all I can do is :

Show up

Be consistent

Do my best

for my friends and family.

I'm not smart. I just have to keep things simple so life doesn't stress me out.
