Hi Team
In the world of being a father, we need to show strength in supporting our partners and bringing up our children.
We want to be relied on.
Someone to go to for advice and for that person to move that bed into the kids bedroom.
But as a man and a father how strong is strong enough?
well, that depends on what you want out of your training and what your goal is, ae you doing for the world record in deadlifts or bench press?
Do you want to compete in the highland games and lift a globe stone as far a you need?
Or in the real world of being a normal guy, in the normal world, with a normal job, that just wants to stay healthy, fit and strong what standards should you be aiming for in the gym?
Now, we all had our super hero’s when we were younger, they were strong, cool calm and collected. They were able move tanks with one hand and even whole planets.
As a father we are super heroes and we are heroes in the eyes of our kids now it’s time to live up to it.
I’m not saying that you have to move tanks with one hand, but there may come a time where you need to split up a fight and pull or push someone away, there maybe a time you see someone the other side of a bridge looking to jump and you need to grab them and pull them back to the safe side of the bridge.
There maybe a time that you need to carry your child or teenager from the middle of a field after a fall to the nearest road.
So how strong is strong enough?
Some standards to aim for for men:
Deadlift – double your bodyweight Bench press – 1.5 x your bodyweight Squat – 1.5 your bodyweight Pull ups – 10 reps Farmer walk – your bodyweight for 100 yards Run – 1 mile without resting
Some of these standards are from Dan John a great strength coach and I can’t argue with them. The guy is strong and knows what he’s talking about.
With these standards you should feel strong enough to save a life or be able to run a least a mile from any massive dangers that happen in life where most people won’t be able to.
You also will look like a hero too!
Chris
